Below you will find an update on the recent key Safeguarding developments in Scouting. We hope you find this useful.
Updated Child Protection Policy
The January 2010 edition of Policy, Organisation and Rules (POR) includes a number of changes to the Child Protection Policy in areas such as the use of alcohol on Scouting activities and the creation of the Safeguarding Awareness Coordinator role.
New Yellow Card – fourth edition
An updated version of the Yellow Card is now available, which incorporates 'neglect’ into our policy statement.
A copy of the updated version of the Yellow Card will be enclosed with the August/September issue of Scouting magazine, along with an article highlighting the change.

Following the changes to POR relating to Alcohol and Scouting:
Guidance relating to this subject was provided in November 2006 in edition 1 of Factsheeet 185092 which amongst the general Guidance and Good Practice stated that "When responsible for young people, adults should not drink alcohol."
At that time there was no direct reference to this subject included in POR.

Today, I was involved with Suntrek for the first time. 9 teams of Cubs took part in a 7km incident hike around Dodford doing various challenges including a First Aid challenge. We all waited nervously to see which team had won. As the cub packs were being read out the two teams Woodford Halse had entered were starting to get a bit excited as it got nearer the top. We were absolutely delighted to come 1st and 2nd and take the shield back to our group. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Gill and her team for all their hard work in organising this event and I look forward to defending our crown next year.
One of my cubs asked who Kevin Marshall was as he had seen his name on the shield. I replied by saying he was a very brave young man who loved Scouting and that this was an event dedicated to him.

THE World Scout Jamboree is a large two-week long international camp, held once every four years in a different host country every time. The 21st World Scout Jamboree was held in 2007 in Hylands Park, Chelmsford, here in the UK.
The event, for 30,000 participants from across the world aged between 14 and 18 years, is run by adult volunteers who make up the International Service Team (IST).
