Cub Swiming Gala 2009

The District event took place on Sat 21st Nov and was a very good scouting evening. On the Monday of the same week I only had my own Long Buckby team and a promise of a Byfield team (who's team details had travelled bizzarly to Vietman). But things took shape by mid week and on the day we had 10 District packs represented. In fact such was the pace of late entries and changes I was wondering if some events would actually be pushed into requiring 4 heats. In the end all individual events were 3 heats and there were even heats in the relays.

I had great hopes for my star swimmer competing for the first time in heat 1 of the junior back stroke event. But such was the talent on display he was beaten into third place and did not even make the finals. This was typical of things to come with some classy displays from several of the girl competitors.

A degree of interpretation was applied as necessary in all rulings within the pool which allowed the event to be undertaken in the right spirit and luckily, just in time as we completed the last final at 8.45 (to be away by 9)

In the end Byfield romped to victory with 45 points and were placed first or second in 5 of the 9 events. They are once again holders of the shield having lost grip of it to Brixworth last year.
