LONG BUCKBY CUBS HOLLAND TRIP

Created on 13 May 2011

29/4/11

Our party consisted of 10 Cubs, two leaders plus families and friends. We were off on a 4 day excursion to GOES Holland. The travelling by car took most of the day, but the 2 hour midday ferry crossing Dover to Dunkirk was a welcome break and pretty good fun for the Cubs.

We Camped at www.sportpuntzeeland.nl/

This is an excellent base with all the necessary facilities and amenities.

The Cubs spent Friday evening in the pool complex

30/4/11 (Queens day in Holland)
Everything is closed, but everyone is out having street parties and functions.

We spent the morning around the town and participated in water based games – all free courtesy of a competition being held later that day.

We met with Dutch Scouts and Cubs  www.hvbgos.nl

Dutch Cubs are known as “Welpens”

We joined them in an afternoon of activities and outdoor cooking
Early evening the Cubs enjoyed the various play and pond parks nearby whilst some of the leaders sampled salt water basin swimming

The town square staged a monster Disco all night.

1/5/11

We had a 7 a side football tournament to compete in. Our team was “West haddon juniors”

Our fate in the competition was sealed after 2 heavy losses against class opposition, but a very level and tense third game against the GOES B team saw us win 2-1 to well-deserved applause.

Lunch was all laid on in the club house and we were presented with participation medallions and a cup for “sportsmanship”.

Back to the camp for a 3 hour pool session.

Hot pools, cold pools, spa pools, lazy river, 2 wicked water slides and bouncy floats

Chill out evening – for some, but most wanted to hit the pond and play park for a finale

2/5/11

Travel back day with a slightly rocky ferry crossing

In summary it was a phenomenal adventure.

It looks like I have created another annual event
