As Spring arrives and the evenings become lighter and we take the young people in our Sections out and about on more Outdoor Activities and Residential Experiences I would just like to issue a timely reminder of the importance of completing proper Risk Assessments for all Activities undertaken and to ensure we are all familiar with the requirements of P.O.R. and associated Factsheets.
Please also take time to re-read the attached recent supplementary guidance from Headquarters, which was issued partially as a result of the tragic death of a Beaver Scout in Suffolk whilst on an activity with his Colony, and which I did initially circulate throughout Nene Valley District in September 2010.
Please ensure you regularly review any Risk Assessments before, during and after the event, conduct regular headcounts, and comply, as an absolute minimum with the stipulated adult / young people ratios, although these may not be sufficient for some activities for some Sections and should always be considered in an initial Risk Assessment.
Please also mention at all Group and District Team Meetings as not everybody receives or opens their emails.
Please continue to provide Activities that are Exciting but not Dangerous and that are Adventurous but not Hazardous
Thanks.
Best wishes to you all, enjoy the forthcoming Spring and Summer and continue to put the 'OUT' in Scouting.
