On Saturday the 21^st of March 8 keen football teams from various Scout groups across the Daventry District took part in the 2009 Daventry District Scout 5 A-Side Football Tournament at Danetre School. Fun was had by all despite a number of scout groups pulling out of the tournament at the last minute. The event was a great spectacle for scouting as every one who took part played with massive enthusiasm and commitment, proud in representing their scout group. After every team had played each other it eventually turned out to be a very successful day for Woodford Halse Scout group who won the event for the first time in their history.

All 8 teams played each other, eventually creating a top 4 placement that subsequently played a semi final, 3^rd place play off and eventually the final. The first semi final was Between Long Buckby and 2^nd Braunston. The game started off at a frantic pace with both teams having early chances. It was 2^nd Braunston who took the lead from a blistering 25 yard strike. But this appeared to inspire Long Buckby who scored two goals in quick succession. In the second half long Bucby scored two more goals cementing their place in the final with a 4-1 victory. The second Semi Final was played between Woodford (B) and Flore (A) this was a very close game. Woodford took the lead in the second half. Flore made things very difficult for Woodford having a number of attempts saved by an inform Woodford Goalkeeper. Flore left them self’s venerable in defence as they pushed for an equaliser. Woodford were able to hold this slender lead eventually winning 1-0. The 3^rd place play off was won by an impressive display of football by Flore (A) eventually beating 2^nd Braunston 4-0. The Final was a very close game at the start with both teams going close to scoring. Long buckby looked the stronger but were hit by a sucker punch just before half time when Woodford scored a well worked one-two which was finished with great skill. Long Buckby started the second half strongly but were gradually worn down by a very good Woodford Goalkeeping and defensive display. As Long Buckby attacked they left their defence exposed which subsequently led to them conceding again. This inspired Woodford who took control of the game eventually scoring 1 more goal resulting in a 3-0 win to Woodford and being crowned 2009 Daventry District 5 A-Side football tournament champions.
